Message from Gyatrul Rinpoche March 2nd, 2010
To the Austin Sangha,
One
way you are excited; one way you don't know what you have. Now the
Vajrasattva ceremony [retreat] is happening, you guys are really lucky.
Do you see how lucky you are?
Lingtrul Rinpoche is not just
ordinary. These days there are lots of people with the name 'tulku.'
But his lineage is from Tangtong Gyalpo's country, and he is a real
tulku. Sarpo is a real lama, you have been seeing how he has
compassion, faith. Everything right now is really good. You have a
statue of Guru Rinpoche, not just 1 but 2, large and small, and you
have other statues and thangkas. You have everything you need--you have
a temple, a small one but you don't need big, and everything is
perfect.
But it's not enough. Now you need to liberate from
suffering. That means you need to stand up. You need to work. You need
to open your eyes. You need to listen with your ears. You have to think
about the dharma, hear and contemplate and meditate on it. You have to
understand your job, you really need to know your reasons. You need to
know how to benefit yourself and how to benefit others. You need to
know what you have in your hands. You have the freedom of a human
birth. With this, you can hear, contemplate, and meditate on the
dharma. If you don't do this, if you don't take advantage of this
opportunity, that is your fault, not someone else's! You are so lucky,
you have teachers, you have the supports of enlightened body, speech,
and mind. You have the opportunity to practice.
Now what are
you gonna do? Don't waste your luck. You right now have the opportunity
to benefit yourselves and others, you are so fortunate to have this
Vajrasattva practice happening. I have no freedom right now. I have to
stay here maybe another month, going to see the doctors. I am under
their thumb. Really I am under my body's thumb. But you have the
chance. My hope is that you take your chance. You don't need other
things, you have everything for this opportunity. You have a vajra
master, a lama, chopons, umze, helpers who you can learn from. Take
this opportunity as much as you can. Help and learn, this is your
chance. That is my request.
Ven. Gyatrul Rinpoche
